Julie A. Johnson, Chief Strategist

If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” – Albert Einstein

Julie is an award-winning strategic communication professional with more than 20 years of public relations, marketing and journalism experience. While she possesses a deep understanding of the entire health care sector, including biologics and medical devices and diagnostics, Julie specializes in working with health services companies, such as payors, providers, health information technology, contract manufacturers and distributors. In addition to building communication programs for health services organizations, she helps medtech companies reach decision makers within the health services industry and understand the shift toward outcomes measurement and value-based healthcare.

Julie is a former senior vice president and healthcare group practice leader of BlissHealth, a division of Bliss Integrated Communication. While there, she led development and implementation of strategic communication programs for organizations, such as the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement, FAIR Health, the National Coalition of Pharmaceutical Distributors, as well as MD&D and life sciences accounts, including Delcath Systems Inc., Keryx and Enzo Life Sciences.

Before joining BlissHealth, Julie led agency expansions into the health services and HIT sectors at Ruder Finn, where she headed the Aetna, Microsoft Health Solutions Group and ActiveHealth Solutions accounts, and WeissComm Partners, where she was an associate director of the San Francisco office and led the McKesson Specialty Health, CEP America and SpineMark accounts. Prior to this, she was a vice president with FischerHealth/Porter Novelli, where she led the Humana account and developed nationally recognized consumer education campaigns. She has also worked with a range of other healthcare companies, including Novartis, Pfizer, Amgen, Genomic Health, Thoratec, PEAK Surgical and Cellestis Limited, on integrated communication campaigns, brand building, thought leadership programs and internal communication.

Prior to working with communication agencies, Julie was a marketing services manager and product manager at ZLB Bioplasma (now CSL Behring), where she launched an anti-D product for pregnant women, and assisted in the launches of several immune therapies. She also spent almost 10 years as a reporter and editor at newspapers across the nation.

An avid writer, photographer and animal-lover, Julie spends her free time hiking and chronicling the antics of her dog and cats on a personal blog.
